Dormer Fans this one is for you: This month see’s the launch of Dormer’s latest version of their innovative “Product Selector” programme - a web-based ‘live’ application that provides guidance on the most effective machining solutions from the company’s database of more than 12,500 products. The 2014 version has been completely re-engineered from top to bottom to maximise ease of use, speed and compatibility with modern PC’s and latest versions of Windows. The software provides users with personalised advice on the best tool for a range of machining areas including drilling, milling, threading and reaming. As such, it aims to simplify the sometimes complex procedure of tool section, hopefully saving time and money that may otherwise be lost on materials or tools damaged through incorrect usage. The design and layout has been refreshed with minimal data input required. Most information can be selected either from drop-down lists or check boxes. This means the process i...
Dormer’s renowned A002 TiN tipped jobber drill is now available to purchase in a pouch pack. Shown below, this provides protection for the drill whilst also enabling easy display and stand mounting via the incorporated euro-slot. Each pouch pack details key features of the drill, including depth capability, point geometry, material suitability and thread size (if used as a tapping drill). Features & Benefits Marking - Visible with tool in-situ for easy identification. Helix - Optimised for greater stiffness across diameter range. Finish - Bright body improves performance on ductile materials. Ground - Tool All surfaces ground for consistent precision. Coating - Titanium nitride resists flank and crater wear and has low friction, promoting increased cutting speeds Point - Design Efficient cutting action, reduced axial force, accurate centering Web Design - Optimised strength and rigidity, easy to feed. Flutes -Improved flute geometry for efficient chip form and evacua...
Dormer Shark Line takes a bite out of threading Dormer Tools has introduced a new range of taps for material specific applications branded “Shark Line” . Designed to obtain superior performance, all Shark taps feature a coloured ring that signifies the specific material type it is suited to. The programme encompasses spiral point taps for through-hole applications, spiral flute taps for threading blind holes and, in the case of white ring taps for cast iron, straight flute taps for both through or blind holes. Shark Line taps are manufactured from a HSS-E-PM substrate specifically developed for taps to give the additional toughness required, consistently stable properties and a superior grind-ability compared to conventional high-speed steels. These improved characteristics mean the taps have a more predictable and assured life. Advanced geometry ensures the production of excellent threads at both high and low cutting speeds. Furthermore it prevents unnecessary bu...
